Halima, age 42

Halima is a Somali woman who has been here in town for 18 months, having lived previously in Leicester for over 5 years.

Her first records in the country come from her registration at the Clocktower homeless shelter. Before living at the homeless shelter, she spent time in a squat on Hope Street (now re-possessed). During this time, she opted out of existing medication to help control her autism. Drug use was evident in the squat, and Halima was cautioned for possession of amphetamines at the time of removal from the premises 5 months ago.

Since then, it is believed that she has sofa-surfed and spends most of her days outside the shopping centre. Here she often takes a platform on a bench and addresses passing shoppers. She has been moved on for disturbing the peace, but recently reports from community officers are that her rhetoric has become accusatory and threatening.

She has accused both passing Sikh and Pakistani males of sexual offences, and has spoken out about women who do not dress “respectfully.”
